Chas Campbell's flywheel generator claims to generate output power exceeding the electrical input. How does this align with standard thermodynamics? Lawrence Tseung claims it 'leads out' gravitational energy because of the loose belt drive. Can anyone explain the physics of the loose belt?

Standard physics says that flywheels only store energy, they cannot create it. However, the loose belt creates a system with rapid torque impulses (shocks) rather than smooth rotational drive. In mechanical engineering, impulse forces can drive systems into non-linear regimes. Tseung's theory is that these impulses extract gravitational force during the downward stroke of the off-center wheel. I'm skeptical, but many builders have replicated the looped system.

The belt slap is absolutely key. If you tighten the belts, the motor bogs down and drawing exceeds output. When the belts are loose, the motor runs with low current, and the flywheel acts as an energy accumulator via its high angular momentum. Make sure your flywheel is heavy—at least 20 kg—and perfectly balanced.
