Overview
A pulsed permanent magnet motor/generator that uses precisely-timed short electrical pulses to energize stator coils as rotor magnets align. Rotation is primarily driven by permanent magnet attraction to the stator's iron cores. Electrical pulses serve to cancel the 'back-drag' that would normally slow the rotor, and the flyback energy from the collapsing field is recovered to recharge the source battery.

How It Works
Permanent magnets on the rotor are attracted toward the iron cores of stator electromagnets. Just before the magnet reaches the core, a short pulse (25% duty cycle) energizes the coil to repel the magnet forward. The critical timing window is ~25% on, 75% off. Back-EMF from the collapsing field is captured through diodes. The machine operates as both motor and generator simultaneously.

Robert Adams, a New Zealand electrical engineer, developed this motor in the 1970s and published 'The Adams Pulsed Motor Generator Manual' in the early 1990s. He faced significant opposition from the New Zealand scientific establishment but persisted in sharing his work. Patrick Kelly devoted major sections of Chapter 2 to the Adams Motor with detailed coil dimensions and Mark/Space ratios.
